does anyone know what "chill filter" is ?
guys , hi again .
i was wondering , i just bought a lovely bottle of glenmoragie "traditional" which seems to be NOT chill filtered . this tastes amazing. however , i found i have no idea what this "chill filtering" really is.
is it just the activated carbon proccess ?
is it something i can do at home ?
can it improove my product ?
i distill almost only fremented fruits , in a pot still .
thanks !

Chill filtering is simply putting your product in the freezer for a time and letting it get really cold. Then pass it through a cotton ball in a funnel or coffee filter or whatever type of filter you choose to use. All your product will thicken in the freezer especially the the oils. When you pass it through the filter it will trap the oils making for a cleaner product. I do this with vodka to get the oils and the last bits of carbon dust out. Not sure if you would want to do it with your fruits because you may loose some of the flavour.

There is a post - cold filtering - related to that in "flavoring and aging".

Light travels faster than sound. That is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
