Re: filtering rum
Hi Steve (another UK stiller, great) have you tried the Harris Vinbrite Filter. Its relatively cheap and it does a great job with wine. Have'nt made rum so can't realy tell. It is a great little filter though. You can get it at most homebrew shops. Try The Homebrew Shop homebrewshop@btconnect(dot)com in Aldershot.

Milk filters work well. You can get them at a feed store hear in the states. You might be able to get them online they look like a white disk about 5 or 6 in diameter.

Re: filtering rum
Another one here who uses coffee filters (unbleached). Does take a bit of time for the first pass. Might need to change the filters once or twice during the first pass. Second pass is very quick.

Re: filtering rum
That is taking way too long. I usually filter 5 litres (bit over a gallon) in about an hour. You might need to run it through some coarser filters first, like some fine stainless mesh, or a couple of layers of plain cotton cloth.partybus wrote:had one through a coffee filter all last night and still not through yet,
No, I use a new filter for the second pass.partybus wrote:when you say second pass Hookline is that through the same filter??

Do you have enough space in the freezer?
Put it in there and let the jellyfish settle on the bottom. Then re- rack (with filter) to another vessel.
