Just wondering what the forum thinks of using brass instead of copper. I am just about to build my first still and there seems that there are a lot of fitting around that could be used that would simplfy the joining process.
Any thoughts on effects on quality/taste with the zinc in the brass?

Re: Brass
Hi gdryan0, Brass often contains lead. No way to tell for sure, so treat all brass fittings with - I think - hydrogen peroxide and acid to dissolve the surface lead if any. There are topics about it here so do some searching!
If you don't, the alcohol will do it and you really don't want to be drinkin any lead. The effects happen long after you forgot what you drank.
