Question from a greenhorn

Post by Jethro »

OK. So I consider myself an accomplished home brewer and lately I've been lurking on this forum. I really wanna put together a pot still and was looking at putting to use a Sanke keg I have in my brewshed that is just gathering dust. I was looking at putting together a potstill myself since I'm pretty hand with about anything with a bit of help.

I'm thinking about using this Stainless Steel Flange / Ferrule - 2" Diameter from Mile High Distilling.

Anyone know what the ID/OD of the ferrule is? I sent an email to the contact address but didn't get a response. Could this be adapted to copper? Any issues with the gasket they sell for this?

Yo Jethro, welcome to the forums.

I don't know if all ferules are the same, but here in OZ I just bought some fittings for a new build.

Here we have a triclover fitting, 2" ferule, 2" to 1" reducer and a 2" elbow.

The 2" reducer is the same size as a 2" pipe. It won't fit over the ferule.

The 2" elbow (that the 2" pipe fits into) will slip over a 2" ferule.

If I was attaching a 2" pipe to a ferule, I would be fitting a 2" joiner first. ie ferule to joiner to pipe.

Be safe.

Freeze the Ferule and warm the copper pretty good. It should slide right over the top of the ferule and make a really good seal when temps equalize. I hope this helps you out.

I personally bought the 2" adapter with the 2"npt threads on the other end and I use a 2" copper female coupling that screws right on.
