Hello from NZ
Hi
I'm from NZ being reading this forum for about the last 3 months thought I might as well say hello.
At the moment putting a business plan together for a micro-distillery so will be asking a few question.
Pretty much have it all down but it is the finer details that I'm after.
Looking at getting a 250ltr copper still to start with.
I've been interested in whisky for a longtime now so thought I might try and give the mirco thing a go.
The worst thing is I havn't done to much distilling so it is going to be somewhat of a learning curve.
I say I will get plenty of good advice.
Sean

I would recommend, that you start off ,smaller such as 30liter still,or try manage this size first.

I'm in Woodville.
We do have a 35 ltr still coming as well.
It is a very long term project.

It's a long term dream of mine as well. might be worth trying to have a snoop around Lighthouse distillery, they're not too far south of you in Greytown. If you want an easy start to learning, a keg boiler and pot head will do you perfectly.

Welcome MD, maybe we can interchange some info in the future, my micro is already working and very soon I'll be able to talk with the distributers.

I went to a tasting they put on in CHCH. Interesting old jokers. They buy in grain neutral and reprocess into gin. Their product is pretty nice, if (IMHO) a little heavy on the orange. the use of kawakawa is interesting. I grabbed a bottle just to keep as a reference.mensdomain wrote:Thanks Kiwistiller I live in the area and never even heard of them so thanks for the info.

They got their still made from someone near you I think - not a stillmaker, just an engineering firm if I recall correctly.
They had some interesting ideas about what to do with the sav blanc glut in the country. The last figure I heard was that the grapes were about $250 per 1000kg in the 2009 vintage. Definitely an opportunity there.
