Confused about new liebig
So I purchased a liebig condenser that is made from 1 inch stainless, it's about 2 and half feet long. It has the two ports on the shaft, one at the top of the condenser, the other at the bottom, looks like all the other ones I have seen in pictures. The ports are are made of 1/4 inch stainless that stick out off the pipe about two inches. The two ports however aren't connected to each other inside the condenser.
Maybe I have the wrong idea about how these work but I thought you run water through these ports to knock the vapor down. I expected a stainless pipe to connect the two so all I had to do was fit a plastic hose on each end and run water through it. The only possible thing I could try would be running plastic tubing though the ports. This would be near impossible to do because of the limited space inside to work with. Also I don't really want plastic tubing in the vapor path. Copper would be impossible to fit in as it is even less flexible than plastic.
Sorry if this is confusing.... If anyone can explain these things to me it would be much appreciated!

Re: Confused about new liebig
i think that you have the whole concept wrong. how much research did you do on a liebeg? this condenser is like a water jacket. the 1/4 inch stainless that stick out off the pipe about two inches is a full piece of pipe that runs through the inside of the 1 inch stainless. the two ports just circulate the water around the 1/4, and that pulls the heat away. IT DOES MATTER witch port is the inlett and wich port is the outlett. when you do a little more research about a liebig, you will find out the direction of the water flow. iv been in this hobby more than a year,,,, and i still spend all of my time in the novice section. this is a great comunity with allot af knowlage and people that are more willing to help,,, but,,, from what im finding out, its 75% reading/ research and 25% doin.

Re: Confused about new liebig
Alright, so first off thanks for the responses. The picture that lctws put up looks to more like a liquid management design to me with the water running through the column cooling the vapor.
The still is from stainlessstuff.net and if you follow this link you should see a drawing of what I am talking about. (http://stainlessstuff.net/stills.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow). I have the VM/stripper combo package. The condenser is the one shown in the picture. Now I thought that the inside there would be a pipe that connected the two ports so that all I had to do was connect a hose to each and circulate water through. The condenser however is just a hollow piece of 1" pipe with the two ports sticking out. There is not an inside pipe that would be the inside the jacket. Obviously if I attached a water hose to either of the ports the water would just mix with the the vapor and flow out the end, not going to work.
I'm not sure if he intended for me to try and weave a plastic tube in one port, through the tube and out the other port. This would be hard to do, and I don't want a plastic hose in the vapor path. I am considering having someone cut it open and running a piece of soft copper through the inside of the pipe connecting the ports so I can cycle water through.
Thanks again for trying to help, hope this new info helps diagnose my problems, I think I am still missing something. I am waiting to hear back from stainlessstuff.net. The guy I have been dealing with there has been really good so I'm sure I will get to the bottom of it, thanks

Hhahahha omg I just double checked and they do connect.... I just assumed there was no inner jacket because when I looked through it I couldn't see an inner pipe. It is a different setup than I thought. I just ran water through it and it works perfect. I had no idea, he does really good work. Sorry to waste your time...
