distilled a flat keg of beer....

Post by ozone39 »

In my quest through my garage searching for an old keg I found it to be some what full (about 1.5 gallons left over). I'm going to be building a new boiler out of this (+ the 12" s.s pipe I scored up) thing for my ponu's so I figure what the hell and threw the stuff in my still and ran it. It was a great smelling aroma (very sweet), but did not have hardly any alcohol in it (about 60 ml)..If I remember correctly it was Budweiser..Didn't taste it, going to mix it with some gas and run it for lawn mower fuel..Was wondering if old beer losses it's ABV somehow?? It shouldn't if it's in a sealed pressurized keg, right??? Just throwing it out there....

Suprised that you would "season" your still head with a potential funk.

Reason I mention that, is that lots of folks talk about cleaning there stills and so forth. But I've been running rums (mostly) and my pipes smell wonderful. I don't want to clean them as nice as they seem to be seasoned.

I would hate to run anything that would compromise the nice rummy aroma within.

Sorry for taking it off topic.

I "steam out" my still for 5 minutes every time I switch washes (I don't bother if I run the same wash more than once) 1 gallon of water with 2 table spoons of white vinegar...then I flush with tap water...
