The Ship

Post by ammo man »

I am not leaving the ship. It is not sinking, but I am branching out. I am getting into wine making. I have a friend that just started and he talked me into it.

I have a 25L Welch's Concord off the shelf grape juice fermenting now. I've been doing the reading on our forum "Beer, and Wine", and searching the Internet. Really not that much different from what we are doing now.

I will do my wine posting over there, but I just thought I would let you all know. I know a bunch of you also make wine. If you have any pointers, suggestions, etc. for a beginner, pass them on to me on the Beer, and Wine forum. Address them to Bert or ammo man. Thanks.

It is possible to own a whole fleet of alcohol themed water craft...;)

My only advice with wine is to have a great deal of delicious fun with it. You can make wine out of the strangest things and get some really superb results. I am a big fan of Dandelion wine. I make it with a little sparkle and it's better than panty dropper in most cases...and my Christmas wine! Oh Baby!

Whatever you do, or decide not to do, be happy!

Sort of one step ahead of you Larry. My friend's second batch was a watermelon wine which turned out to be ship. He brought it over, and we distilled it. He has it on oak. Don't know if it will be any good or not.

ARRRgggghhh captain bert. Ahoy matie, hope yer wine is good. Like LW says, if not chuck it through the still. I heard some of the worst wine makes the best brandy..

Why did you start this thread bert? Did you think we would call you a traitor? Have fun.

Nah, on the traitor part. I'm am NOT giving up or slowing down on my stilling. I have a 3rd generation of a take off on a sour mash recipe I am trying going right now. I just wanted to let you fellows know that since I can't be bonified, at least I can diversify. 8)

The truth is I have had making wine on my mind for 10 or 15 years, and at the prodding of my friend I decided this would be a good time to start. Since so many of you make wine, I thought I would let you know I joined the club.
