The Phantom Still and Other tales of Northwoods Moonshining by Jon Schmidt
Copyright 2004

I just finished reading this book. Basically, it is a 107 page book with several pictures, but few of actual stills, etc. It basically tells the story of Prohibition and moonshining in Wisconsin's Langlade County. It tells a lot of facts about people and incidents and ties them in to present day cities, buildings and other location. It is short on both documentation and information about the actual process of distillation. The author has a basic understanding of moonshining but his knowledge is limited and he makes errors that are obvious. The book would be of great interest to someone with a familiarity of Langlade County and the surrounding area. I'd give it 2 1/2 stars out of five.
