just got back from getting Lasik

Post by Husker »

That is one thing I hope I never have to repeat. Wow.

That was the weirdest thing I have done in a while. No drugs (till I got home and shot down a couple good belts and some beer).

They put this thing to open the eye, then a cup like thing that had suction, and then made the flap with a laser. When they put the cup thing over the eye, vision simply 'went out', like the old tube type TV's, it just faded out. THAT was a RELEIF. The biggest thing I was worried about, was having all this stuff happening, and WATCHING it. Turns out, for whatever reason, your vision is simply shut off somehow.

So in all, was not all that bad. When they lasered each eye, you could smell (and even taste) rancid burn flesh, and it was nasty. I still have the smell/taste hanging around a bit.

Well, they told me to sleep, but I think I will play a couple games of poker. I am in a league on Stars, and am in 4th place right now (out of about 10k players). Payout is based on end of month ranking, so I want to make damn sure that no1 snipes my position (which is pretty safe, since I moved up 20 points yesterday). However, I am within striking distance of 3rd, and that pays 250 more, which I would like to claim.

Damn the sleep!!! There are games to play, hahaha.

fuk the doc! I really prolly should not play. At this time (and level) playing after a few drinks is not wise. I think I am 'semi' safe, in 4th place (pays $500). I would like to take 3rd, and I 'know' it is doable. I could possibly even move into 2nd (with luck). 1st is 1500, 2nd, 1000, 3rd 750 and 4th 500. Then $300, 250, 200, 150, 100 for the the top 10. Then $50 for 11 to 98, $30 for next couple hunderd, etc. Top 1000 pays. Not bad for free poker! I have snuck up the ranks VERY quietly, until last 2-3 days. Now people know who I am, and what I am doing, lol. No more incognito.

Hell, I was railing on one table, with the guy in 10th (was in 4th 2 days ago). He and the leader were at my table in the tourney I played right b4 I had to go in for sugery. I told him I was done, and was small talking. Well, the guy in 5th, who is 20 down, sort of came unglued, and stated it was not even worth chasing me any more (I never said shit), and he donk'ed out early (about 1/2 way through). Well, in doing that, he probably put himself out of a shot at 4th, for sure. I have been monitoring every player in the top 50, watching for people that can overtake where I am, and watching the people ahead of me, to see if someone stumbles.

All in good fun. Damn the Doc!

I had it bout 6 yrs ago. Best decision I ever made. Walk in with glasses, and walk out being able to see like a hawk. 8)
20/15 vision now. Youll get the dry eye fer a while. That is a bitch. But now I dont even barely remeber I had it. The best part is waking up for the first week, reaching fer yer glasses.....and, oh yeah, dont need em. Just the sun glasses---> 8)
Best of luck to ya H.

have not had a CRT in years. They ARE nasty. However, our 'smart' gooberment, is forcing pple to buy those fukin murk spiral bulbs, that are toxic as hell, and as bad as CRT's (fuk'n strobe lights). Just as bad.

Well, I got what they call 'mono' vision. It is where they correct one eye for distance, and one for close. My dominate eye is left, and I am right handed (somewhat rare), and I shoot right eye, which sucks, because your brain really only sees out of your dominant eye, thus when shooting, it is a problem unless you squint. Now, what they did was make the left dominant eye able to see clearly at distance, and the right eye, is done at computer distance (since I am a computer engineer). so I have full distance on the left, and mid distance on the right.

What that does (with training), is to allow far and near to work well and clear without readers, or other things. One of the drawbacks to it, is that your depth perception is not as good (that is what the non-dominant eye is for).

Now, I can already tell the difference at computer level. It is not clear, but very readable. I have not re-trained my brain yet how to use just one eye, but will in time. When I close my left, the computer is crystal clear. Now, right now, the left eye is not clear at all, but it is much more clear at distance than my right eye. I think it will need a few days for inflammation and stuff to settle down.

As for dry/burn, it is not bad at all. I have pollen/dust/dander allergies so bad, that this is really not much worse (better actually), than when I have a bad flare up in the spring or fall. Thus, I will just drop the drops in, and it should not be an issue at all.

I ended up playing poker at 7, and was out in 1 hand. Sucks, but I was counting chips too early. I was SB. BB was sitting out. The person UTG limped, and I simply called, with 74o. Flop came 568 rainbow. MAGIC flop for my hand. I thought a moment and shoved, hoping he caught something and was going to give me chips. Well, he had caught a little piece. He had 8d3d (there were no diamonds on the flop). I was about ready to do the happy dance. Then 3 on turn, 8 on river. Oh well, it is people like that which have allowed me to make it as far as I have in this league. Sometimes you lose. I know MANY in the league will simply blow a cork in a situation like that. yes it sucks, but 49 out of 50 times, I will double up, and that allows me to play a LONG time, as I am very tight, and can play deep into a game with few chips.

Well, that was a huge point loss (I am not fully sure how big yet, because the game is still going, 3 players left, NOPE, just ended, so I should know how huge of a hit I took, shortly). That dropped me 3 or 4 places (from $500 to 150). Well, I played at 9, and place in the money, which shoudl have brought me back up to 5th (I hope). I did end up losing one place, and 2/5's of what I had hoped for, but I would have played that hand pretty much that way no matter what.

I am 90% sure that no matter how I played that hand, short of folding pre-flop, I would have ended up busting out. thats just the way it goes.
