i have some flasks, beakers, funnel and a grauated cylinder, made out of pyrex and bomex. is this ok to use untill i get theses in SS or glass?

Pyrex is heat resistant glass; very good.

Bomex sounds like plastic. OK for a funnel, but I would not use it in a still or for storage.

Pyrex and bomex...maybe the glass has an outer skin of plastic as a safety thing. If the glass breaks then the plastic will prevent spills and glass going everywhere. This is good as long as the plastic is on the outside.

pyrex kitchen wear is soda lime glass

bomex pyrex duran and kimax laboratory wear is borosillicate glass there is no plastic inside or out from the factory. they are safe for collection.

glass stills are not recomended. cob

Bomex is borrosilcate labware that has been semi-heat treated in lieu of being made from Pyrex Soda .Good durable stuff. If you use it to boil, make sure you use glass boiling chips.

thx guys...i wont be boiling out of the flaskes or cylinder, just want to use them for collection . ive been looking around localy and havent been able to find a copper or SS funnel, looks like i will have to mail order.
i did add about 2 foot of copper to my SS still, feels like i am back in the service doing the bright work. :D
