Is it possible to re-use oak chips or are the reaction between alcohol and wood then used up
both virgin American white oak and toasted oak

Oak chips can be reused just like oak barrels.

I'm on my third go-round with oak chips. Just takes a little bit longer with each aging. Taste as the aging goes along so you'll know when to pull it back off the oak chips.

Good things may come to those who wait. But only the things left by those who hustle.

I reused my oak chips as well and found the same thing. They didn't seam to have any color left to give even after 3 days. I had read you should reuse and add a little more but I just wanted to see what would happen if I didn't add new and the chips gave me no color. On the third day I added some new and overnight I had my color.

I am Canadian

Thats the reason of reusing charred oak strips is the milder flavor you get from it.I do use lightly toasted oak in making a gold colored rum.
