cut with plain ol' water?

Post by D Major »

Hello all,
I read somewhere, and then haven't been able to figure it out since, that you are supposed to cut your spirits with distilled water, as opposed to tap water.
Any thoughts?

Thanks.

It's your choice, I personally just use tap water.

I use the filtered water from the fridg. Probably a joke, but hey! I payed extra for that filter and I am going to use it. If I wasn't so stupid as to buy the filter in the fridge. I'd use plane ol tap water. The city gets it from a well. SSOOooooo I have well water. LOL!

I say it depends on your water. If there's no extra chlorine or iron then I'd say you're good to go. If you drink it, and there's no off flavors, go for it.

I use rain water from our galvanised tanks. Been drinking it for a bloody long time now and there's nothing wrong with me apart from the shakes, loss of memory, sore joints, and general wearyness. :)
Simple potstiller. Slow, single run.
(50 litre, propane heated pot still. Coil in bucket condenser - No thermometer, No carbon)

I have only used either Purified or Distilled water. I only distill neutrals and don't want to take the chance on some off taste from the tap.

I use water from the mountains when I can be bothered to bring 20L home...
But lately I have been using water filtered with a Brita water filter...
Gets rid of chlorine, fluoride and other nasties, I think I paid £10 ($15 US) for it...
Take the tap/filtered water test, really is night and day...

Happens when you drink that water for such a great number of years....

I use distilled water. I have a country well and it contains some nitrates and iron. I can't stand the smell of city water because of the chlorine.
