In addition to recently taking up distilling, I also enjoy exploring the deserts of Nevada and California by ATV, and exploring old mines and mining camps. There's just something about an old tunnel that's been sitting abandoned for 100+ years that has always interested me. Thought I'd toss up a couple of photos from some of my many trips over the years. There's a link at the bottom if you'd like to see more.

I love climbing and go to the mountains whenever I can... If I get some time today I'll post a couple of photos... My wife daughter and I love the outdoors and in the summer we are very rarely home...

Unfortunately, the mummy isn't real. We stumbled across an old mine that some local folks had decked out as a "haunted mine". Lots of monsters and big fake spiders and such. Certainly one of the more interesting finds!

In most places, the main haulage tunnels have long since been been explored, and in most cases, picked clean of any interesting artifacts by vandals. For those with the equipment and skill to venture further underground however, there lies a glimpse into the past. Equipment left standing for decades, looking as if someone were going to come back at any moment, pick it up, and start working again. We've found personal artifacts left behind by the miners. Lunchboxes, old books and even personal journals that provide a very personal look into what life was like back then. Everything is left intact, waiting for the next group of brave individuals to discover.
