mni-still mod

Post by Ricky »

i am wanting to make the simplest stripping head that anyone can come up with to put on my 15gal keg. my intentions are to stripp with it and to use it as a pot still. i have thought about a variation of the mini still that bokakob makes. i would use 3" pipe about 2ft long mounted on a mixing bowl. the big difference would be an external coil about 16" long. the vapor should condence on the pipe wall and slide down and be caught on the slanted plate. at least this is my thought. if this would work it should be about the easiest pot still type head i have seen. the reason i want to use the 3" is so i can turn up the heat and try to get a high rate of distillate within a minumum amount of time. please give me some feedback and constructive criticism. any advice would be appreciated.
thanks,
Ricky

My idea of most simple design for both stripping and pot-stilling:

- piece of copper pipe straight up out of keg
- 90 degree angle / knee
- piece of copper pipe
- larger piece of copper pipe that slides around previous
- larger pipe sealed off and equipped with both inlet and outlet

Device also known as: "straight Liebig Condenser"

Even simpler, just bolt the condenser to the side of the column. For DIY challenged, use 20mm or so pipe and wrap the coil around it. If you really need 3" pipe you have so much power that the mash will boil really violently and will foam out if the boiler is not relatively large.
