I'm using a Still Spirits 25L Reflux Still and get 70 - 75% ABV from a 25L Sugar wash using Still Spirits Turbo Yeast.

Is there anyone out there getting better results from the same or similar still?

Has anyone modified their still to get an improved yield?

I have no personal experience with this, but I did read a few posts here about it. It's a cooling management still with the coolant pipes running through the column, right? From what I have read, the purity of the product is determined by the temp and rate of the coolent flow. If you run a search (link at top of the page) for still spirits still, you sould find it. The post was quite old and in the research forum, I think.

The pictures on the site looks like a Super Reflux... but what they have done is extended the column. I might research the benefits of that.

What I'm going to do first is pack the column of my current still with a scrubber. I've only managed to find 2 types here in NZ without added cleaning contents, A 3M Gold (Copper and Zinc) and a Stainless Steel tyoe one.

I've also investigated adding an extension to the column made from a 40mm copper pipe, and connectors which I will fill with ceramic beads. I'll try adding this after my next run with just the scrubber added.

I'll let you all know how I get on.

I'm using a Still Spirits reflux still modified as "Peachey" said and I stuffed a copper pot scrubber inside my reflux getting 93%, Last time one test came back at 94% I was happy, You will use less water to, running at 74oC+

The % I quote on the web page it a hot percentage (around 40oC) scaled down to a 20oC temp.

So a 94% a 40oC = 92% at 20oC

+ i'm not taking credit, It was soo much cheaper than the other one

I agree on the price thing. The difference between a Reflux and Super Reflux is quite remarkable, considering the slight difference.
