Foreshot and Sprit run

Post by singlemaltluv »

I'm running my still in pot still mode and doing stripping runs on 20 litters washes without tossing out the foreshot. My question is if I do this until I have enough to do a sprite run to load my still in pot still mode, how much foreshot do I have to toss. Example if it take me 5 of the 20 litters wash to make up a loading sprite run do I have to toss out 5x200 ml which is 1000ml of foreshot to be safe. Thanks in advance for replies.

Your math is correct. You don't really need to dump that much but I do, not for safety but because of taste. I like to blend back in a little heads to my drinking spirit so I like taking a big forshot cut.

Taking the forshot and making cuts is about taste and good liquor, you could take half that amount of forshot, (500mill) but why not take double. You own a still, your going to be swimming in liquor soon so don't be afraid to take a big forshot cut.
Ideas are like rabbits. You get a couple and learn how to handle them, and pretty soon you have a dozen. John Steinbeck

+1 on what RD's posted... I also take a big foreshot from my spirit runs as I like to blend a little heads to my final product, just as RD does...
When I first started stillin I thought I was taking too much fores, but after I bult my stock up, which only took a month or so,
I really did'nt mind taking more than was needed... I was swimming in the stuff...

Besides, my alcohol stove I use when I go climbing needs to be fuelled up... Dont be afraid to take more...
