greetings.
well after reading here and other articals over the last 4 months i finally got in gear and started.
sunday, using a SS turkey cooker 12 1/4" x 16" pot i started with 5 ga. water from the hot water tap and heated to 150 F.
added 5 lb of white cornmeal stired and stired added 10l b of sugar and stired some more.
let sit overnight so it would cool off then added 21 grams of fleisehmann's yeast after premixing the yeast in luke warm water.
had to run up town for a bit i'd say in a hours time it was working good.
btw did the math for volume and 5 gal was like 9 some inches of water so i went ahead and used 10 inches of water. the cornmeal and sugar added 2 more inches of height. just throwing that in cause i read where someone wanted to know the displacement of the sugar and such.
this morning, Tuesday, i went out and took off the lid and stuck my nose in it and got me a big wiff... like to took my breath away! man it smells good!!!
can't wait to run it off.
the set up will be like this.
commerical turkey cooker with propane heating stand.
pot size already listed, flat lid with just a little hole in the lid to drop in the cooker therm.
drill out the hole to put a thru wall pipe fitting.
put a bullhead T on that allows me to insert a therm to run the wash up to the 170's.
seal with wheat paste so it can act as a pop off valve not that it should be needed.
other side of the T will be the fitting to connect to a 4' copper flex gas line tubing so it is easy to connect to the copper condensor coil.
the condensor coil i'm thinking to go with 7/16ths rather than 3/8's.
get me some pvc pipe to make a rectangle frame 1 foot square by what ever height i'll need.
this will be a 4 leg'd stand.
drill holes in each leg so i can put coffee cup type hanging hooks that have standred threads so i can mount the copper tubing to the pvc stand. after the first leg is drilled drill each following leg is drilled 1/2" lower so it has a good spiral form. leg 1 is 0 leg 2 is 1/2" leg 3 1" leg 4 1 1/2" so when i get back to the starting point i'll be 2'' below the first coil.
so 25 feet of tubing gives me 8 rounds of coil about 18" in height.sturdy frame and nice even windings.
wish me luck
it's alive!!!

just thinking, with good teachers why would i need luck.
thanks to all the people here, without the postings it would still be a thing of the past. my grandpaw did this when i was just a little baby. i think my dad knew all about it but he never mentioned much of anything to me. and on the other hand i can understand why also. knowledge without wisdom can be a dangerous thing.
