So, what do you think?

Post by Bull Rider »

OK, I make a pretty good product, and I've shared it with family and close friends. It's a lot of work, and I'm pretty stingy with sharing.

It really aggravates me when someone will take my whiskey, and add soda pop as a mixer. I put way too much work into my stuff to have it cut with freaking 7Up.

I keep store bought whiskey, Jim Beam and Makers Mark on the shelf if they're going to use soda pop.

I explain to them that store bought whiskey is great for mixing with soda, but hand made whiskey needs just a splash of water and a couple of ice cubes.

How do you handle this? It's like buying 2" thick New York strip steaks and someone wants me to cook it "well done". No way! I have hamburger that I'll cook up if you don't like a steak properly seasoned and cooked perfectly.

I hear you Bull, but you gotta let it go and suffer quietly ... or not share your stuff. Some folks like their likker with coke and their steaks well done

doesn't sound very fun. I think it would be best to remember that not everyone has tasty handmade spirits to enjoy like your fine self. :D So all and all that's not to terrible of a problem to have.

We have had this discussion several times at the house. Neither my wife or I enjoy liquor with just a splash of water (neither were liquor drinkers prior to Dec. 09). We both enjoy our mixers with ginger ale. Folks that have tried it straight up or with a splash of water have spoken very well of it. Everybody has their preferences. Folk's reference points are all different -- don't think it makes their enjoyment/appreciation for it any less though.

My wife, who's my social north star, understands completely. She sees how much time goes into the process.

All's I'm sayin is that if you're going to ruin good likker with soda pop, then ruin Jim Beams...

Now, I have six taps of homebrew beer, ready to serve. Every now and then we have a guest that asks for Bud Light. No problem, except that I don't have Bud Light to serve. We do have guests that bring Bud Light, it's what they prefer. No Problem at all. That being said, we've converted a lot of people the just "think" they don't like homebrew.

When I let people taste my whiskey I make it for them neat or on the rocks so they can taste the flavors. But after they've tasted it they can do what they want. Key point being that people get to enjoy your whiskey however that may be.

I can see how it could bug some people cuz we do put a lot of work into getting our product. That being said, if a gift is offered than it is no longer yours but the gift reciever's to do with as he/she pleases. I always drink mine over ice; I like how the flavors come out at different abv% as the ice melts. Friend of mine always drink his with apple juice, even the stuff I give him occasionally, but when I give it to him it's his choice how he drinks it.

Bull, maybe ya need to put up signs: "Booze for mixin with soda pop" and "Booze to drank with a splash a water or some ice," But my thoughts are that if ya put it out for your guests you have essentially made a gift to them for their pleasure.

Please don't misunderstand, I don't lay awake at night fretting over this, it's just a topic that I wanted to kick around with other stillers.

I fully appreciate the concept of a gift, and that everyone has their own likes and dislikes. I get it.

Like any good host I'm socially adept enough not to offend. My wife looks at me and smiles, because she knows what I'm thinking when the soda pop comes out.

"Here, you might enjoy this Makers Mark with that 7up"! :)

My wife makes me put on a electronic dog collar when we entertain. It really helps with social situations, and I'm down to three or four good jolts per event. But the smell of burning hair and flesh puts a real damper on the evening...

I had to read this 5 times to get what you are saying... At least it ended with punctuation.

i no xactually what ya mean about ruining sum very good aged whiskey with coke or juice. i prefer mine with water an ice. i cringe when someone asks for a coke OR if i happen to want a flavored drink. i solved this problem by keeping about a quarter of my spirits as just plain white dog deluted down to 80 to 100 proof. if ya want a flavored mix ya drink that, if ya want ice an water ya can have the oak aged whiskey. it works for me.
today marks the dawn of a new error.

Bull,

Slap the crap out of them. Take the adulterated booze away from them, throw it away and hand them a light beer. Men don’t let wimps rule their world damn it !!!
If they want to drink crap let them go to 7 –eleven and buy a slurpee. Let them put vodka in their McDonalds milk shake. Dont let them put SHIT in your hard earned booze!

Just my opinion…. LOL

I figure it this way, drink it anyway you want. I know a guy that has a still and he can make more where that came from. Hey at least they will wake up and not have a hang over.\

Now if they ask for a bottle after defiling it with coke I might be inclined to give them a quart jar full of piss. After mixing it with coke I don't think they can tell the difference.

Too funny....
