Sand Casting

Hi everyone:
Is it possable to cast some 2" copper pipe? Not too much just a couple feet, and this is just a question, but I'd like to know if anyone has tryed this before? and if so what are the steps involved? Thanks

cast, i don't know, i once made a 2 inch copper pipe out of an copper geyser, copper is soft metal, i battered it round a 2inch steel pipe, soldered the ends together. :esmile:

Sounds pretty damned hard to me. Do you have access to a foundry by chance? Even if you do, a 2' long piece of pipe would be a challenging thing to cast.

Best chance of getting success would probably be to use the lost wax method. Make the pipe out of wax, pack the inside with sand then pack sand around the outside. Melt a bunch of copper and pour it into the mold. The wax will melt and be replaced with copper. If you are lucky, or good, there won't be any voids in the casting. But I bet there will be some.

Braz....I totaly forgot about the wax mould casting, thanks for jogging my memorie.
Yes I've built a home foundary several years ago but only did aluminum at that time and didn't even give a thought to copper till just today. But I'll check into, thanks for your reply.
I've done that tapping around the ol' steel pipe with copper to make some kind of goofy lookin' copper fittings, it don't take too many times to smash a finger before a guy will give up on that hahaha...........
