hello everyone,
Mike here from new york. Have always been fascinated with distilling and finally decided to jump in. Found this site from reading survivalist magazine(very usefull). I am still trying to decide between a premade pot still and making my own. Might do both
I'v done my fair share of reading through the posts and some outside research and just made my first ujssm today. Five gallon mash with 7 lbs. sugar, 7 lbs. cracked corn, and 1 TBS yeast. Concerned if that is enough yeast but I guess I'll find out. Seems to be foaming up nicely. Any constructive criticism is welcome though please.

yeast multiply all on there own and theoretically some wild yeast blowing on the wind can "infect" then multiply and ferment your whole batch so 1 TSB will work.
the benefit of more yeast is that it can hit maximum concentration faster and go to work quicker on the sugaz, it also gives you the best chance of using the yeast you want (no wild yeast competing)
if it has foamed up your laughing and it should complete fermentation all on it's own if you keep it nice and warm

I guess you will have to decide soon on building or buying, because your UJSSM mash will be ready in not time! Great pick for a recipe btw. Love it.
A bit more yeast does not harm. May give you a quicker fermentation and so a smaller change on infection. But the yeast will multiply. If this round works out, you will have a strong & thick yeast and grain bed already to start generation 2 on.

Welcome to the forum, survivalist magazine, interesting place to find something about HD but I suppose it fits! +1 on Odin's comment your wash will be done way before you have a still.
