interesting story goes along with this pic....
this is a still brought up out of the cave where the Lost Sea was found. The cave and land originally belonged to a Cherokee Indian Chief. The cave was originally used for tribal ceremonies....then the indians figured out that lighting fires in the cave wasn't to their liking..in the early 1900's a bar was opened up....it had dancefloors and 3 stills. There is another located inside the cave above the Lost Sea, neat lil exhibit. The party-goers didn't realize that the cold of the cave(averages 56 degrees) kept them from feeling the effects of the moonshine...and as they made their way back up the 140 ft to the outside....the shine hit them and alot of them passed out and fell back down the stairs out. Needless to say....the bar was closed down and the stills eventually brought up. The Lost Sea is located near Madisonville, TN and is worth a look-see if you are in that area.
