Howdy from Texas

Post by bigwheel »

Old retired phart here. Have dabbled around making wine and beer over the years but first attempt at moonshine. I have a Brewhaus HC distiller with the 15 gal milk bucket boiler and a 1500 Watt hotplate ordered and waiting to get it. They are apparently running quite a bit behind on orders. I have 12 gallons of cornmeal flavored sugar wash on lockdown in the fermenters which I plan to run through the gizmo if it happens to arrive before the wash goes South. From chatting on the Brewhaus forum have about decided to do half batches when using the hotplate..maybe saving full loads for the propane turkey burner. I am on fire to get started and learn new stuff. My favorite storebought distilled beverage is Sour Mash Bourbon..Ezra Brooks to be exact but I aint real picky when it comes to hooch. Thanks for providing such an informative site!.

Welcome bigwheel.

After your wash is done, if you rack it off the trub and put in a refrigerator it should last a good long time.

A hotplate, unless it is modified, is not a great heat source due to their cycling on/off.

Thanks Braz. Dont think Mama have enough room in the ice box to put the wash in there. I did read about the cycling issues on the hotplate and sent off for a fancy 20 AMP router controller from Rockler wood working somebody recommended over on the bh forum. Should get it today I think. I did chat with a fellow over there who uses the 8 gallon bucket and the hotplate without the controller. He said he just left his turned up full blast the entire time and controlled the temps with the coolant flow. I have already figured out there is a lot to learn on this hobby

Thanks a lot for the welcome and recipe suggestion. I read over your mods to the hooch making machine yesterday. Way over my head. I am a mechanical ignoramus and way over budget on this project. Think I best try to just use the gizmo as it comes..at least for a while. If..I ever get it..lol.
