Post by topbunn »

anyone on this forum that is from or near western north carolina knows of burke county and the nick name "bloody burke", especially the old timers. Burke county north carolina is steeped in moonshine and moonshine lore. Western NC was where MANY scottish and irish immigrants set up there homes after they came to america. and with them they brought the skills they had learned back home to make likker here in the mountains. Burke county earned its nick name decades ago and youll still here it come up in conversations today. heres a link to the history of my home county, and how it got its name. its a pretty good read. http://www.deweyfox.com/alookbackatburke.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

Nice piece of historic info, I lived in Burke for two years, before deciding to head back up the mountain to Spruce Vegas;) It was dry counties up here till just a few years ago, my Grandpa made a good living bootlegging in those days. He's gone now, and those are just memories of days gone by.
