Cuban Rum

Post by sluggerdog »

I've just got my still going and will have my wash prepared by the end of the week.

While at the local Homebrew Store I picked up a Prestige Cuba Rum Essence and I am planning on making this one first.

Anyone had any experience with this essence and if so how was the results?

I'm not sure if I have ever tried a cuban rum, anyone know of a good commercial example? It's a Gold Rum. Just so I know basically what I am looking for.

Thanks

Havana club is probably the finest example, comes in white, gold ( 3 yr ) and dark ( 7yr ), well those are the most common anyhow.
I buy a fair bit of it.

Natural rum essence usually gives a very drinkable result but beware of those cheap artificial essences. Those create a nauseating smell and awful taste.

I don't know about the flavouring but Havana Club rum is excellent. Havanna " Especial'' is a nice amber colour and is sinfully smooth tasting. They also make a 15yr old dark rum....mmmm

Can't wait to go back to Cuba :) Oh yeah the cigars are'nt to bad either
