Distillation of Heads/Tails...

Post by crossedrifles08 »

Ok, I'm still somewhat of a newb. Won't lie about that. However, I've been having good luck with a modified All Bran recipe, as well as one of my own. And really have been enjoying it. I have been using a Mr. Distiller while I build a larger still. And as such I can only collect small amounts of hearts at a time. However, my collection of heads/tails has been getting larger (i collect down to 30%).

Now having said that I wanted to talk about the safety concerns when distilling the heads/tails. I hear some people simply pour them back into the next back to go on the burner. However, I was thinking that I may be able to just distill them as they are. Now it does raise some safety concerns in my head. Because I know that there is a chance there COULD be other alcohols in the mix (such as acetone and the like in the tails). However, I'm no expert yet and wanted some feedback from you good people. Thanks again.

Here give this a read. Big R's method is good. I do a modified version. The only difference I do the last run in a reflux still.
