I woke up in paradise

Post by mash rookie »

On my second day of my annual boating trip I arrived in my favorite bay. We anchored up last night and cooked dinner on the BBQ. The morning is perfectly beautiful. Blue skies and sunshine. So quiet you can hear birds from across the bay. The water is so calm there is not a ripple for a mile. All my stress left quietly during the night for parts unknown.

After breakfast we will go salmon fishing and whale watching.

Congrats MR. Enjoy your stay. Going on vacation next week to the mountains of New Hampshire. The rental house is beautiful with a stone pizza oven, gazebo hot tub, sauna, exercise room, game room, the works!! Really can't wait for this one!

BM My cell works and my 3G as well. I am anchored in Wescott bay. You will reach me if you try. We are going to fish the south east shore of San Juan Island tomorrow.
The weather was a perfect 85 degrees and the water smooth. We fished all day but did not find any salmon today. Quiet but beautiful. The whales were not here today but usually are. We watched bald eagles play and harbor dolphins jump through swells. Beautiful and relaxing.
I will post pictures in a week or so. I have my 35mm but forgot a patch cord. I had trouble downloading a resize program today. They will rock!

Garrison is beautiful Bull. Did you check out the old British camp there? I have anchored there before. It is on the south side of Wescot bay and is always a little crowded with boats. My friend lives a little farther into the bay across from the oyster farm.
I think after catching up with Bushman I will spend a couple of days at Snug Harbor before meeting my girlfriend at Roche Harbor next week.

It is so dark and quiet I sleep until sunrise. The mornings are the most beautiful time of day here.

Yes, we did visit the camps, and read the history of the "Pig War". We spent one 4th of July holiday anchored up at Roche Harbor, saw the big yachts with the Bell Jet Ranger helo's on deck and the crew members all had matching uniforms. Some serious coin, but we were having more fun I'm certain.

Made the trip across the channel to Sidney B.C. several times, loved the Gulf Islands and the Canadians.

Jeez, you two desperados will probably make the front page of the Seattle Times in the next few days, email me if you need bail money.

LOL Bull. I once made the front page of the Nanimo news. A friend and I blew an engine in his Russian built hydrofoil 20 miles short of Campbell river on a fishing adventure. “Two Americans on Russian boat break down in Canada” It was a long skinny boat. We loaded it into a rental truck. Sticking halfway out we drove back to Seattle. That was a site. The bow of a boat sticking 12 feet out the back of a rental truck.

No salmon. OMD. We fished for a few hours yesterday without a bite. Not even marking fish on the sounder. Hopefully some fish will show soon. I dont have to tell you how nice the weather is right now. Just being out there is great.

I spent the afternoon working on my dinghy outboard. We had oysters and clams on the BBQ last night.
My friend that ran the boat up with me goes home today. It will be just me and my Cocker spaniel for a few days before my girlfriend flies in.

I am going to cruise over to Stuart Island to meet up with Bushman tomorrow. I will probably stay on anchor there Saturday.

I've never been to the west coast--the more photos I see, the more I want to visit. When I was in school, I always wanted to spend some time in Oregon, but never did... For now, I just have to live vicariously.

All I have to say is Princess Louisa inlet. The most beautiful place on this planet. I used to play chess with 'Mac'. But then, I'm old.

[Jim MacDonald donated his 45 acres to BC in 1953. More acreage was donated to the park and now includes most of the inlet.] A red canoe, a calm inlet, and chatterbox falls, what more is there to say?

Here is a photo of Malibu rapids, the entrance to the gorgeous fjord, named after Tom Hamilton's yacht, the Malibu.

9,000 ft glacial peaks drop precipitously into the inlet, with rainbows glistening from both sheer walls (in the right angle of sunlight).

And here is chatterbox falls. Canucks are the sweetest, most lucky people on the face of this planet.

Grin, don't think I've been to ANY part of this country, or those few others that I've been to, that wasn't beautiful. Even Dallas, though we did have to use a freeway overpass to see further than a few hundred yards. New England fall colors, Arizona spring desert blooms, Colorado mesas, Dakota badlands, Florida everglades, etc.

Hope I didn't hijack, Mash. But your venture, and all the input about the San Juans, Georgia Straights, and Stuart Island by Bull, Olympic, Bush, et al, just got my nostalgia all riled up. I used to deckhand out of Garrison bay and Pender Harbor. Stop it, or I'll build a raft and re-adventure.

You are welcome to chime in Mogur. I have to agree that I have seen many beautiful places in the US. Some of the east coast barrier island communities are stunning. Colorado is incredible and I too was shocked at how green and beautiful Dallas is. (I am not big on the desert)

Washashore, I understand New England is the NE beauty queen. I hope to see it someday.

The Northwest has a different kind of beauty. We put up with nine months of rain to see it. Evergreens keep the states colorful year around. Add in the all the water, long summer days and mild temperatures it has the most beautiful summers ever seen.

After meeting up with BM yesterday I am at Roche Harbor marina. He has some nice friends on Stewart Island. We had to chase my boat when my anchor pulled in the afternoon. That was better than having it pull when I was sleeping.
I will stay here for a few days after being on anchor for the first week. It will be nice to have long showers and get the boat cleaned up.
My girlfriend flies in on Tuesday. I have a lot of laundry to do in the morning. My Cocker Spaniel loves this place too. She gets a lot of attention.
Okay, Time to fire up the grill.
MR

BTW. Mogur. I installed a chandelier on Whidbey the week before I left just north of Freeland.
