Aging whiskey in oak chips?

Post by Conquistidor »

I just distilled some UJ sourmash yesterday and it smells awesome.

How much oak chips would be suggested? like a teaspoon or two for a 750ml?

unfortunately barrels are too expensive for the time being... but hopefully in the futre.

thanks for the input!

Thats a reasonable start. You may want more, but its good to start light. You can always add more. I just posted something else about this, but you can find chopped Jack daniels barrels sold as smoking chips. These have a good traditional white oak flavor that I like. Closest thing I have found to the flavor of a barrel.
