Good Guy Report

Post by Boda Getta »

I have heard good things about Gibbs Bros Cooperage and ordered a 2 two gallon charred keg to age some SF in. The reason I needed that size is I seldom have more than 2 gals on hand to age. I placed my order a few days ago; this morning I received a personal phone call from James Gibbs who explained the 2 gallon are out of stock and it would be 6-8 weeks before the next 2 gallon production run. He knew I didn't want to wait that long, so he called to discuss my problem. In this day and age it is a pleasure to deal with someone as courteous and professional as James Gibbs and Gibbs Bros. He took the time to call and we worked out a compromise and it was win-win solution. If any of you guys are in the market for kegs or barrels, I whole-heartily recommend Gibbs Bros Cooperage.

+2, they're a little more expensive then their competitors but you get what you pay for.

Do the gibbs brother barrels have a hole in the lid for a tap, or do you drain them out of the bung hole?

I believe the standard is a bung hole with a wooden bung and a smaller spigot hole in the head with a cork in it for shipping. You need to purchase the spigot separately. As said, I'm sure they will work with you and supply any configuration you desire.
