Increasing/decreasing volume of alcohol via heat source

Post by Boots »

I'm no scientist, just was thinking of this last nite. Does the amount of time that you heat the wash affect the volume of distillate that you end up with (I can't remember all the way back to high school chemistry)? For example, if you cranked the heat up on a propane stove and blasted the tempature from 170 to 200 in, hypothetically, 30 minutes, will you end up with less juice than if you were able to hold the temperature at 170 for 30 mins, 180 for 30 mins, and so on? Or does it all even out regardless?

Read the section on distillation theory at the parent site.
