Adding to an existing mash ?

Putting older posts here. Going to try to keep the novice forum pruned about 90 days work. The 'good' old stuff is going to be put into appropriate forums.

Adding to an existing mash ?

Post by 1131morg »

I tried a 2.5 gal. grain recipe two days ago and its doing fine. Now after seeing how its turning out I wished I went ahead and did the full 5 gal. to fill my ferment bucket. I was wondering if I can put together another 2.5 gal and pour it in with my existing ferment?

corn maize
malted barley ( 2 row )
flaked rye
brown sugar
corn syrup
distiller yeast

If I can add to the existing that has already been working for a few days, how will that affect my ferment time and will I have to add more yeast ?

it will be like starting all over, posably a bit shorter as yeast is active.
