Glycerine?
I'm following a recipe for Kahlua I read on this site. However, it calls for Glycerine, which I gather is used to thicken the drink. I'm not sure where I can find this - I've looked in grocery stores and inquired at pharmacies as well. Also I'd rather not make it myself if it involves using a still (I don't have one). Any suggestions on how I can get my hands on some? Or can someone suggest a suitable alternative?

It's usually in with all the food colourings and flavourings in my neck of the woods. May be called glycerol instead of glycerine. Its concentration in brews may be increased by adding metabisulphite before the yeast, but it has a high boiling point and would be difficult to distill with a conventional rig.

glycerine?
for what, mouth feel?
my spirits have nice 'legs' without any additives, never really thought about asking the rest of you.

Re: glycerine?
Kahlua has quite a mouthfeel to it, don't know you're going to pull that off without some glycerine. If you can't find it in the grocery store (where Muckanic suggested) try a mail order homebrew shop - darn near every single one of them carries it.Uncle Jesse wrote:for what, mouth feel?

Thanks for all your suggestions...I've tried finding it in pharmacies, grocery stores, etc. and no luck. Also I can't be bothered to order it mail delivery. However, I went ahead and made the Kahlua without the glycerin, and I have to say, I like it just fine. Maybe I'll just let sleeping dogs lie for now, and try honey next time.
