Producer's Pride 12% sweet feed

Will this be okay to make the whisky recipe with? This is all they had at the local Tractor Supply Store

Have you read through the sweetfeed thread? Does it have pellets? Or is it all grain? If its all grain that's what you want. If it has pellets find another. Pretty simple.

This one has pellets. So It will work but not recommended.
Try to find grains only sweetfeed.

It says it isn't pellets. The back also feels more like a compressed bag of oatmeal where the other was clearly pellets and the bag would just fold right over your shoulder. I did read the thread but I only found mention of a 10% or all grain. Never touched a bag of feed in my life.

The Producers Pride sweet feed I use is corn, oats, barley w/12% molasses. Absolutely no pellets (I went that route once and it was a disaster) The bag doesn't say "sweet feed" anywhere on the bag, just read the label. It worked great. I get mine at Tractor Supply.

They are still pellets. And who knows what is in them. I know the one untried with pellets looked like floor sweepings and made a nasty mess to clean out of the fermenter.

Pellets are pellets. It is recommended not to use the ones with pellets. If you just gota give it a try. Go for it. All we can do is point you in the right direction. Good luck.

Even if the pellets are made from only "wholesome" grain don't use it. The bag I used resulted in about a inch of liquid with 3 feet of sludge under it that was impossible to strain. Ditched the whole batch and looked until I found a all grain NON PELLET type. Lesson learned.

I'll toss em out over the yard then. I already returned the first bag that I found out was pellets. Got a funny look when I returned em to get this latest bag. At 12 bux I'll toss it and save the curiosity. Well TS store is out then. I'll check out the feed store down the road.

If you already have a bag - just try it. It will work, just grain only sweet feed is much better.
I did use sweet feed with pellets. It fermented well and tasted not bad after run , but not so good as all grain.
But the main problem is sludge. So as soon as bought all grain sweetfeed, I abandoned my 2/3 full pelleted bag.

I just told them I was making some feed plots for wild game, and this is what someone recommended, so I did not want to get the wrong stuff. I am sure the girl at the checkout could probably care less, if I told her I was using it to make beer, which is actually true. We just happen to be making distiller's beer.

I sifted through this stuff, and it does have some chaff and stalk pieces, etc in it. It looks pretty clean though in its raw form. If I was starving, I could probably boil some up and eat it like hot cereal, after I picked the stalks and chaff out. A little crunchy maybe.

I just did a search in the other forums, and the Producer's Pride sweet feed that they were recommending from Tractor Supply, looks like it is no longer carried. Both of the Producer's Pride feed I saw on the site was pellets!

When clicking on the link for it, it now goes to:

I did a search on the Tractor Supply website, and this looks like what you would want to get for a sweet feed. Not sure how much more it was than P.P.:

If you can't find something similar, basically, from what I have read, sweet feed mix is basically CORN, OATS, BARLEY (COB) and molasses. Maybe you can find somewhere you can buy the grains/molasses seperately and make your own sweet feed!

I cannot seem to find Producers Pride all grain sweet feed in any tractor supply or online. I did however find that Blue Seal Feeds makes a all grain feed from Corn, Barley and oats

Pacer™ is a high-fat, fully fortified blend of oats, flaked
corn, and flaked barley wrapped in molasses and
vegetable oil for excellent acceptance and palatability.
Pacer™ is an excellent all-around sweet feed for active
horses.

There are NO PELLETS in this feed. This would be acceptable to use, correct??

Just went to TSC yesterday and got a bag without looking and when I got it home saw it was pellets . But I am running UJSSM and don't see much difference - corn, sugar. If I want molasses I can just throw some in - so will just stay with UJSSM.

Here in CT, this had to be special ordered which I did.
It's all grain no pellets.
For some reason there was a little oily residue on the surface of the wash.
First wash with this completed the other day, have not run it yet.
I left the grain whole.
My next wash the grain will be milled to see if there is any difference.

pellets are gross, ran my sacrificial with a wash of it, a lot of mush in there, but it does work, but its messy.

Hell I eat it for breakfast since the doctor told me all store bought processes cereal had too much sugar in it for my needs. Hey, as a side benefit it has plenty of fiber and will help clean you out. Onlyist problem is it makes me piss like a horse on a flat rock and sometimes without reason I sound off like a pissed of jackass! So in essance, I see no change in my behavior because of it and it is a hell of a lot cheaper than Kellogs Frosted Flakes!

How do you plan to mill it? I wouldn't put sweetfeed through my mill. I wouldn't want to have to clean the molasses funk out of it.
