Clouded whiskey

Putting older posts here. Going to try to keep the novice forum pruned about 90 days work. The 'good' old stuff is going to be put into appropriate forums.

Clouded whiskey

Post by Rivver »

Okay I'm stumped. I ran two batches of a corn/oat whiskey then ran them both through my still again (pot mode). Collected about a half gallon of hearts which I aged on charred oak for several weeks at about 65%. All through this time the distilate was clear as could be. I cleaned and sanitized a 1.75 liter bottle with One Step, and diluted down to 40% with distilled water. After several weeks in my basement, the whiskey is slightly cloudy when compared to other bottles that I have aging. I've seen a residue when I added honey to distilate on another whiskey, but it settles out. This will not settle and there is no build up in the bottom of the bottle what so ever.

Also I filtered this out through coffee filters when bottling, and I never noticed any cloudiness until after it was put in the bottle. Any help would be appreciated.
