I love bell Street Lightnin'.
Here's one of my favorite prohibition inspired songs. I have original sheet music for it, but coming across the actual 78 has proven a bit more difficult.
How Are You Goin' to Wet Your Whistle? (When the Whole Darn World Goes Dry) by Billy Murray.

How did I know that there would be a copy on Ebay in the wake of me saying something. I hadn't looked in the last month, I knew I should have looked before I opened my mouth
.
Thanks Durace11.
::EDIT:: Scratch that. It was sold 2 months ago. Bummer...

Are you into 20's/30's Blues at all Durace/NJScofflaw?? I'm currently trying to put together a compilation of all Blues sides recorded from 1890-1943 based on Dixon's "Blues and Gospel Records 1890-1943", it is about a 1300 page book that contains all known info on about 30k recorded tracks. Curious if you are interested in that era blues we might talk about what's in your collection. Let me know

I listen to and collect a lot of 1910s-1920s 78s. The bulk of my collection is ragtime / foxtrot and jazz, though I do like blues as well. I willd efinitely have to keep an eye out for that book. I have a book from the 1920s that catalogs victor's operatic albums of the era, though nothing near as complete as what you're speaking of.

Re: Blind Willie McTell 'Bell Street Lightnin'
Rather than start a new thread, I figured I'd just continue this one.
I'm doing a historical presentation on Prohibition in our city, and for a part of the lecture, I need a good hour or two worth of original recordings with an alcohol and/or prohibition / temperance theme. The recordings should be from 1910ish - 1930ish. I have somewhere around 20-25 in my collection as of now, though I'm not a big fan of all of them.
Any help / ideas are appreciated.

Prohibition/temperance only or also Moonshine/Whiskey themed?
I could do a simple search in my database......though the book has an index of songs. What keywords do you think I should look for?

Whoah! There's some research for me
. You really ARE into your 1920s Blues. My record collection has mostly been orchestras / bands , ragtime, jazz etc.
Looks like I'll be expanding my collection a bit
