PC problems

Post by stillvodka »

Hello All,
Any computer buffs out their,
Not really sure to ask this question, but, my computer/PC Fan keeps coming on all the time, and it seems to have a turbo charged mode, i have checked for Viruses and it comes up 0 found, i run Kaspersky Anti Virus, which is normally very good.
It is only 8 months old, i cant check for dust in side the PC ,the casing is riveted i think i might lose my warranty if i drill them out, i bought it from
PC World, Anybody have any ideas.

I think the fan should run all the time the computer is on, if it's in a tower. And that turbo noise might be the fan bearings. Like this fan is likely bad and needs to be replaced. I might be all wet though.
Shine on!

Some fans are temperature controled so if the temperature gets too high the fan speeds up. It could be the bearing(s) going but that is kind of unlikely if the PC is 8 months old. Unless it is in an extremly dusty enviroment. I would phone where you got it from and see if they use fans that speed up when the temperature increases. If not it should still be under warranty and they can replace it.

I don't mean this as an insult just a fact. If you smoke you stop up the fan and heatsink over the processor really fast.
You may want to check and see if it is full of dust even if you don't smoke. I have to clean mine about every six months because of my old house. I use a normal hose vacumn cleaner and an small paint brush. It does the trick every time.

If you'er not sure about the fan get it checked out, that fan should run all the time or your CPU will overheat and die and maybe blow your motherboard too.........good cooling is extremely impotant.

I dont think we know if it is the CPU or not, it could just be a case fan that controls the ambient temp of the case. Cant tell without opening. Its silly to not be able to open up your case. But I worked for a computer store and it was the same way. In order to not void the warranty you have to take it to them. If it is under warranty they will take it and open it up, check the problem and clean it out. Thats why it has a warranty. If you dont take it to them you might as well open it up and do what you want. I build all my own computers and computers for others. I make sure that if they dont, I take responsibility and clean them at least once every 6 months. Ive seen a lot of components die in dirty computers and few die in regularly clean computers.

Exercise the power of your warranty, otherwise why do you have one.

I bit the bullet, and opened up my computer, to say it was clogged up with dust would be a understatement, Pintoshine, i think was spot on with the smoking part, my PC is situated in a room where we all go to have a puff, for a PC that is only 8 months old, i don't know how it can clog up so bad, the dust did have that nicotine colour to it, so i think smoking did exasperate the problem, that said, it is working perfect now, no more noise.

Thanks Everyone, most appreciated
