Condenser water sleeve
Hey guys,
I am in the process of building my still and I am up to the water sleeve. I have a 1/2" x 1/2" x 3/4" Copper Tee fitting and I planned on running the 1/2" piping from the 45 degree angle through the tee 1/2" side of the tee fitting and out the 3/4" side and then down through another about 2 feet away with a 3/4" copper tube sleeve over it. The only issue I have come across is that there is a noch in the tee fitting that stops the pipe from sliding all the way through. How do people get around this? I was thinking a dremel tool to shave that down but I figured I would get another opinion because proceeding.
I attached the picture of the notch that I am talking about
Thanks,
Chris

dremel, round file etc etc. I used a file for sharpening my chain saw, worked a charm
make sure you "sneak up on it so you dont take too much off.

Re: Condenser water sleeve
we just put a block of wood on top of the fitting and banged the pipe through it. Turn it around put the fitting lightly in a vice and bang on the pipe til it's through the fitting of where you want it.
Re: Condenser water sleeve
Any type of rotary grinder will work, I used a rotozip with a porcelain cutting tool (wont cut tile, but works great on metal). The file would work, but probably take a bit longer.

Emery cloth in a cut off bolt with a notch cut in the end. Chucked up in a drill. Acts like a flapper wheel.
It'snotsocoldnow.

Go very slowly with a 1/2" drill bit. If you look around you can find fittings that just have a tiny punch mark instead of the full ring as the depth stop.

It really does only take 20 seconds with a file.

Re: Condenser water sleeve
Annealing the fitting makes it easier to modify. The copper gets much softer.

With some fittings yes with others you can spend 5 mins per fitting which is not to bad if you are making 1 Liebig but if you make more than one it becomes really old really quicklybellybuster wrote:It really does only take 20 seconds with a file.

Small round file and a few seconds of labor....
The pen is mightier than the sword... but the guy with the sword decides who gets to hold the pen!
