Picked up a 120v 1500w induction hot plate for $50. Should be great for small batch recipe development projects with a small pot still.

After a bit of looking into, I might pick up another to deconstruct and see if it could be turned into a heating coil for induction soldering . It may not be powerful enough to work for that, IDK, just a thought.

Just boiled some water in a 8 qt stock pot. The induction field appears to be about a 5" diameter donut shape, and boiled a quart of cold water in about 4 or 5 minutes, not really sure how long as I was just sort of keeping track in my head. I will try 6 qts of cold water and time it to see for sure how long it takes to get to full boil, and report back later. It only has 6 power levels, not as many as some of the more expensive units out there, but for only $50 it's not bad for experimenting and messing around with.

Wow great deal. I want to run gin essence at some point using higher ABV in the pot. I won't do it on my gas stove, so it has been put on hold. I might do the Cosco trick and have my brother (has a membership card) send me a gift card for 50 bucks...that way I don't have to spend another 50 on the membership.
