Strange Bubbles

Sorry to ask this cause it sounds a bit silly. I started two batches of PintO's sugar wash a few weeks ago. 5 Gallon batches. Both starting sg's were 1.0750, both had all the recommended DAP, epsom salt etc. Pitched both with distillers, same amount 1tsp, rehydrated in water with a little sugar in it(had a cup of foam for both trys.

They both came to a halt at 1.020, are still sweet, but one is clear and he other has these funky white almost dusty looking bubbles on top and bubble top is cloudy. Also, a slightly acidic tang in that one. They have been sitting for 4 weeks.

Does not seem to impart any bad flavor, it just looks like pond scum on top.

Can I run this or should I dump it?

Can I mix this or the other with a batch of UJSM before adding the sugar and get it to finish?

Planned run for the weekend.

Any advice?

Sorry, Wineos wash. Credit where due. I have made this before and I did use more yeast than I said before, but not 1/4 cup. The stuf I have says a pound treats 1000 gallons so I used about 2 Tbs to start it off.

If the one with the bubbles starts to smell floral with a hint of grapefruit, you then have a lacto infection. This is not a bad thing. If is starts to smell like puke, dogshit, dirty sneakers. Then you have a bad infection. You can run it or not your choice.

Smells a little more like grapefruit than dog shit sneakers, so I guess I'm good for now. I may let that one sit for a little while longer and do the better on first.

Any thoughts on mixing in the UJSM grains and yeast to try and finish the ferment. This stuff is still kind of sweet.

they might look like they are stalled. Just wait a bit longer the last part of the ferment takes a bit. Check the SG in another 2 days and see if its still falling.

what temp are they at? if too cool you might try warming them up to 75 F or so.
I'm going to try a renewable grain based lifestyle. Beer and whiskey count don't they?

I would rack into a clean container. That's sometimes enough to take the FG over the finish line.

I would run the dusty lacto-infected one first as it will have a stronger flavour and then add the strip run pack to the uninfected one to do a 1.5 spirit run, it will mellow the lacto run a bit and carry over more of the flavour from the uninfected one.
Where has all the rum gone? . . .

hell I would put some of the lacto infection into the other one and wait. :) Lacto is a good thing
