Marillen Schnapps (Apricot Brandy) from Austria

Post by Odin »

I am just back from a few days of skiing with the family. We went to Saalbach-Hinterglem. Lots of snow, great fun.

Bought myself a Marillen Schnapps from Stroh. And I liked it! Tasty and no head ache.

Still, some thoughts remain ...

Stroh is the famous maker of Stroh Rum. 80% abv / 160 proof. Burns yer gut down, but has a reputation. As a rum. Only, it isn't a rum. It is GNS diluted to 80% and with a rum essence added.

Hope the Marillen Schnapps is for real, but can't help wondering ...

Im surprised they can call it Rum. Actually no Im not, Americans call GNS with flavorings and lots of sugar Schnaps. Ugh! I wonder what the Germans think when they come over and order a schnaps and get a gob smack of syrupy gunk.
In theory there's no difference between theory and practice. But in practice there is.
