Is there any information out there on moonshining in Sunny Manitoba? I grew up there as a kid and remember my dad running off a batch every spring. I guess I kinda want to get back to my roots. Is anyone still shining out there. There has to be some great stories out there. One I can tell happened was when we had party line telephones. One old neighbour lady had a nasty habit of listening in on other peoples phone conversation. You could tell when someone was listening when you were on the line, by the click of the reciever being picked up. Anyway, my dad was talking to his brother about just running off a batch and that my uncle could come and do some sampling of product any time he chose. I guess dad heard the click of the reciever just after saying a few words to my uncle, and he had a gut feeling that the old "battleaxe" was up to some listening in. When he finished his conversation, he said that he had a bad feeling about where he had stached his stuff and that we had better move it because he expected that the "battleaxe' was going to report him to the authorities. That cold early spring night was spent helping dad move his about twenty 26'ers from where he had them hid in the baled hay stack to different rock piles out amongst the fields. His gut feeling was right as we did have a visit from the RCMPolice the very next day and they knew exactly where to go to the haystack to look but to no avail.
I did learn a lesson from him that serves mm to this day and that is to trust your gut feelings.
So if there is any information on Manitoba shiners out there please reply to this topic. No names have to be mentioned.
As a side bar. I'm in the process of building my own set up to serve myself and a couple of brothers of mine just to keep the traditon going
Thanks ahead of time and safe shining
