how long to Cleaning Copper Worm

Post by Gamblor »

Greets all

During my first rum run I noticed blue-green flecks coming out during the foreshots and heads. So I decided to clean out the inside of my copper worm with a mix of 50/50 water and vinegar, mixed with a few teaspoons of salt.

It was a challenge getting the whole thing to stay filled up with this mix, in the end I used a racking cane I never use anymore to force it up there and keep the pressure in. Well I was surprised at what came out - tiny blue crystals and all sorts of gunk.

So for the last five days straight I've kept it filled with the mixture, emptying it, flushing it with water, and refilling the mixture every 12 hours or so.

And five days later it is STILL coming out like this!

Anyone know how long this will go on before I can expect the inside to be fully cleaned out?

btw I strongly suspect this is because I added calcium carbonate to a nuetral wash over 6 months ago, and it went blue - I tried to nuetralize the alkaline with citric acid but ran the wash afterwards.

its just the copper pitina, you may also want to fill it with any waste alcohol you got like heads and give it another soak to finish getten her out.
today marks the dawn of a new error.
