Keep posting about this Genever! I've never tried it, but I spent days reading your posts about it and it made me long for a couple cold snowy days by the fire with a cigar, a book and a bottle.

Someday I will get around to making this. Too many recipes.... Too little time.

Odin,

Is this the 'good stuff'? Its on the 'staff picks' shelf at the local liquor shop. "Aged 18 months on Limousin Oak" Sounds delicious. Not cheap, even on sale.

Hi Jimbo,

I do not know that special version, but Bols is the world's oldest distillery and its genevers (korenwijn and oude) are very good. I'd say buy & try. And - just as proposed in the article I posted above - try not to think "gin".

After you buy the bottle, open it, close it, let it sit for 3 days in the room you want to drink it in. Not sure about this genever, but most are so full of taste, traveling means they need some time to re-equalize, re-find their balance. Drink at room temp, in a Cognac glass or a genever shot glass (tulip model). In both cases, make sure you "slurp" the first sip. Drink it like a whiskey, small sips, taste and look for the maltwine first. Then try to find the herbs.

Some like old stylers colder. So if it isn't to your liking at room temp, a bit of cooling may help. This may vary from genever to genever.

Never add an ice cube. Don't mix with Tonic.

And please let us know how you like it!

If you do, I might ship you some in a year time. Plans of producing my own officially are becoming more and more real by the day. If you can't wait for that, try the gin/genever Deerhammer Distillery from Colorado will be putting on the market place in about half a year. I am consulting them on their recipe and distillation approach on genever making ...

Hi Black Eye,

Move it up your Bucket list!

;)

Regards, Odin.

Thats outstanding Odin, congratulations on your rising status and notoriety in the Genever world! Cant wait to try your own official offerings! Will you still talk to us lowly folk when youre famous? 8) :D Maybe we'll rub elbows at craft distillers conference some day when I have my own brand too ;)

PS: Yes, open it, and close it in 3 days empty. Correct? Not a problem.

Good article Odin.

Genever is definitely NOT gin.

Open it and close it for 3 days? That's a tall order. Once I open a bottle I usually want to sample soon after.

Congrats on the developments. That's a pretty significant accomplishment.

Hey Od, its not Genever, but in your quest to be ruler of Asgard and Stillerating Tycoon, I trust youre keeping tabs on all things Gin, for your faithful clientele..
