How long should I soak the barrel? I filled it with spring water and have it immersed in water now. 36 hours enough?
(5 Gallon charred barrel)

Got email back from Gibbs. They said soak for 24 hours. they didn't say inside and ourside, but that's what I did for 36 hrs.
Got it filled with good stuff now!

I soaked mine for 24 hours . Interesting though, the barrel never leaked a drop even when it was first filled with water. Great quality. I'm building an oak stand right now to hold three 5 gallon barrels vertically.

Fill them. Let soak a day or two. On some you will see seapage. Judge by the seapage or lack of it. You will however save alcohol with a little longer soak to fill the wood. The variation in seepage to a small degree depends on if it has been sitting in the warehouse long. I still see a small amount in one of three on a hot day whem pressure builds up. Not enough to worr about.
