I am thinking about using molasses as a nutrient source only for my next vodka run. Would anyone care to suggest a good starting amount to use if you are not interested in using either the sugar or flavour properties in Molasses?
I am thinking of combining my rum efforts with my vodka runs. Idea runs something like this.
- Make a rum wash and distil
- While distilling the rum, fill the wash barrel with more sugar and water and start growing your yeast for the next round. Put in twice as much water and sugar as you require
- Once you have the yeast growing nicely and the backset has cooled, throw half the backset into the rum barrel for your next wash and half into the vodka barrel.
- Add extra molasses and water into the rum barrel and vodka barrel as required.
I am running 50L rum washes and 200L vodka washes so the way this all pans out, I am kinda using the rum to grow my yeast for the vodka.
thoughts?
