Measuring SG

Post by Zeig »

I've literally NEVER measured the SG of any of my washes. Mostly just played with varying the amount of sugar i put in a wash. I used to be into aquariums and had a small device to measure the SG of brackish water. It was for Salinity of water but could one of these be used to measure SG of a wash? The concept is the same to my knowledge, just aquariums assumed SG strictly from salt.

I've linked an image of something similar to what I used.

You can't think of the impossible, because it's impossible. Ergo if you can think it, its possible.

Specific gravity is specific gravity. It measures the density of a solution relative to that of pure water, if you have a device that measures that then it doesn't matter what purpose it was marketed for.

If it only has markings on it that point to salinity however than it won't give you much information.

If the SG scale is in the .980 to 1.100 or so range. Then it will give you what you need.
