building a small reflux still

Post by charles »

so, now that, thanks to the help of the other forum users here, my mash is bubbling away in fermentation i've decided that five gallons of mash is too much to do with my still set up the way it is.

i want to add a reflux column but have a few questions. my current plan is to add a two foot or so, two inch copper pipe stuffed with steel pot scrubers and topped with a wrapping of tubing through which i can run a flow of water to control reflux. i've noticed that the reflux stills don't have condesation coils like the pot stills do, so i was planning on having a small coper pipe exit at the top of the reflux column and then run downwards to some sort of chamber that will assure complete condensation. i've noticed that most reflux stills have this apparatus and am not exactly sure what to do with it. any suggestions would be appreciated.

oh, and if the column seems short it's because my pot is a 2 liter flask.
