methanol ideas/concerns

Post by Guest »

since methanol has a lower boiling point than ethanol, (67 vs 78), would it be best to just heat my distillate to 73 degrees C or so in order to remove the methanol? as an additional/alternative method to discarding first XX ml. the reason for this is that i'm working with very small amounts.... like a gallon, which, according to my calculations, i'd have to throw away the first .4 oz - which is too small a quantity to measure/discard accurately. I'm working with sugarwash, and i'm not sure that the tiny amount of methanol in 1 gal of sugarwash could even make you sick anyway, but i like to be safe.

instead of constructing a "real" (read: illegal) still, i'm considering trying something like this: http://olliver.family.gen.nz/schnapps.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

Will i blow myself to kingdom come if i try that on a gas stove? I notice the guy who made the website has electric
