Converting ulanet heating element to direct wire
Hey guys, so I fell into the excited new distiller trap and purchased a ulanet electric heating element (you know, the one that goes to 11) from mile hi not thinking through the fact that it's thermostatically controlled. I would like to wire it so that I can use so,ething like a router speed controller to regulate output. Anyone ever play with one of these to convert it? Seems like a shame to toss it as the watt density seems reasonable and it's stainless so it's easy to clean. My other thought is to set it aside to use for heating a mash tun or perhaps a double boiler project but those are both a ways down the road. Thoughts on the feasibility of doing this?

There ate a few around that have done this. If you open it up. It should be apparent the two wires that go to the element. And the ground wire. The rest isn't needed.
It'snotsocoldnow.

Re: Converting ulanet heating element to direct wire
Thanks PP, I was hoping it would be obvious once I pried it open. Do you think it would work if Ieft it cranked to 11 and used a router controller or would I generate some odd issue? I am not familiar with the temp control and how it triggers or cuts heat cycles. Also been keeping up on your post regarding the homestead, I am very jealous. I am not too far from you but only have 8 acres, enough to stay busy but not the solitude you scored, Congrats!!
