fitting hot water element to keg

In our view 30 gallons and under is considered hobby size. Do not bring anything larger than this to our site.

fitting hot water element to keg

Post by Stonemull »

I am in the process of fitting this 1500W element to a keg, i put it on yesterday with high temp rtv silicon and self drilling metal screws but was unhappy with the screw material so ripped it out.
bought some SS 8mm bolts that I intend to have placed as studs with the nuts on the outside.
I bought an SS epoxy that is rated for 130C and the idea was to put the bolts through, place a small bead of epoxy on the outside, let that cure, place element in with a liberal dose of silicon and bolt it up. the epoxy will likely crack at this point.

not sure if it will seal well around the bolts doing this method. i would prefer to weld the bolts in position but have nothing to do that.

i have a gasless mig, silver soldering gear, access to oxy for brazing (50% silver). no tig though dammit.

i can get the bolts tight enough as I can grip the protruding end with pliers and its not spinning.

any good ideas ?

this is a secondary running heater only btw, will be up to heat with a big propane burner..
